With a desert of 3pm Saturday fixtures throughout October and November, Saturday’s late kick-off against Middlesbrough signalled the start of the highlight of the period: a trilogy comprising Boro, Leicester and Cardiff, two games at home and two on Sky Sports.

Add to the mix one controversial ex-England manager, one ex-United star and the tornado that is Craig Bellamy, and all of a sudden the excitement of being back in the Championship is plain for everyone to see.

Yorkshire Country Cricket Club A Disappointing End to the Season

Fortnightly cricketing news from Headingley Stadium

Yorkshire CCC’s season ended in disappointment after a 4 wicket defeat in their final County Championship game of the season, at home to Kent. Batting first after being put in by the visitors, Yorkshire made 261 all out, thanks to 64 from Jonathan Bairstow, 39 from Andrew Gale and 39 not out from tail-ender Steve Patterson. Kent replied with 302 all out, young paceman Moin Ashraf starring with the ball with 5 for 32 from 18 overs, Yorkshire’s best bowling figures of the season, in just his second County Championship match.
