Preview The Leeds Therapy Awards 2012

A brand new award ceremony for the city following the success of the Retail Awards

The voting is open for a brand new award ceremony in Leeds, The Leeds Therapy Awards. Following the success of the sixth annual Leeds Retail Awards, The Leeds Therapy Awards is an offshoot to celebrate all the great therapy businesses in Leeds, from salons to opticians.

The nominees will soon be attending a grand soiree during which the winners will be announced. Attendees are treated to a three course meal accompanied by a generous helping of wine. This year’s event on 19th February is set to be an exciting one following the success of The Leeds Retail Awards back in…

Try This CrossFit West Yorkshire

Lucy Adlard tries an intense exercise course – perfect for those with new year's resolutions

It’s the new year, you’ve eaten your weight in Quality Streets, you want to fit back into clothes that don’t have elasticated waists. Now you could go to the gym, fanny around on the treadmill, do a few sit ups and go home. Or, you could go hell for leather like we did and attend a session of CrossFit.

I’m not going to lie to you; it is not easy, not by any means, but it does the job. You will go away from it feeling like you have somehow done the work of about five hours in the gym…

News Physical and Mental Health Awareness Campaign Launched

'What's Your Goal?' Springs Leeds into Action for 2012

Leeds Partnerships NHS Foundation Trust is challenging Loiners (or the people of Leeds, if you prefer) to be more active, healthy and happy in 2012 with their campaign ‘What’s Your Goal?’ inspired by the upcoming London Olympic and Paralympic Games. Attempting to make this the year our traditionally ill-fated resolutions of exercising more and eating healthier result in a permanent lifestyle change, the scheme will offer a number of online services, discounted sporting activities and year round sponsored events, as well as inspirational ambassadors, to get our motivation going.

Launching in February and running throughout Leeds and York, the campaign…

Try This The Retreat at Split Farthing Hall

Ali Schofield spends a day of life coaching, yoga, massage and raw food at The Retreat at Split Farthing Hall in Bagby, North Yorkshire

I find myself at 11am, cross legged, prostate with hands slapping the ground in front of me while I shout ‘hargh’, in a relative stranger’s home. Life coach, Dr Claire Maguire invited me to try out her new retreat – set up with her step mother and business partner Andrea Maguire at her converted farmhouse overlooking the Vale of York – just a week before. If I had been able to see into the future I might have been more apprehensive to take her up on her offer. As it is, the retreat sounds inspiring and just what I need…

Shop Profile Illamasqua Opens in the Victoria Quarter

The brand that counts Courtney Love, Beth Ditto and Lady Gaga amongst its fans opens in Leeds

Last month saw the opening of iconic British makeup brand Illamasqua in Leeds’ home of high fashion, the Victoria Quarter. The cosmetic company, which has its beginnings here in Leeds, has been hailed by British Vogue as a cult beauty brand – and we can see why; with its dark and glamorously dissolute image, Illamasqua oozes ethereal mystery and vampiric sex appeal.

Collections like ‘Art of Darkness’, the signature ‘Freak Fragrance’, and a dramatically decadent poster campaign combine to give Illamasqua that sexy, sinister Tim Burton-film feel. And if that’s not enough to set your spine tingling, Illamasqua have…

Aireheads Speed Dating in Leeds

Larry & Paul are in different living rooms

We’re always after new and exciting things to do so we can talk about them on our shows and make ourselves sound interesting, when in actual fact we’re both ineffably dull little munchkins.

Now, there are two of us in this radio marriage, but occasionally we allow ourselves to see other people. You know, we put all our headphones into a bowl at a party and swap partners. It’s an open relationship if you’re asking.

So when the chance for Paul to go speed dating (only later he realised it didn’t involve romantic encounters while buzzing his tits off on…

Feature You Really Quarter Visit

The Victoria Quarter celebrates two high fashion openings this month with NW3 for Hobbs and Illamasqua

We love the quirkyNW3 for Hobbsrange for cool workwear and preppy weekend dresses, so we’re very pleased that there’s a brand new standalone, next to the VQ’s Hobbs, which opened on 2nd November. It is onlythe second solo NW3 store to be opened for the company and showcases the trend-led pieces over two levels.
Also choosing the VQ to open their second standalone is cult British makeup brand Illamasqua.

Since being deemed to having cult status by British Vogue when the brand was launched in November 2008 by founder and Joint MD, Leeds-born businessman Julian Kynaston, the industry has…

Try This Lush Spa 'The Spell

Rosie Bryan-Adams experiences a magical massage at the Lish Spa

It’s not often that I go for a massage, but I can say that I’ve never had one just like this. Lush Spa on Commercial Street hides a little gem under the floorboards of the buzzing store, full of Lush enthusiasts bursting to impress you with their wide range of fruity, spicy, and sometimes strangely smelling products.

After a busy week with plenty of miles of walking to and fro taking their toll on my feet, I ventured into Lush for what was to be a very different type of foot rub. After a quick hand massage on the shop…
