Bradford Bulls An Encouraging Fortnight

An encouraging fortnight for the Bulls saw two comprehensive victories in as many weeks.
The first saw them get through their opening encounter in this year’s Challenge Cup campaign. It was a trip to Championship side Dewsbury for the Bulls and it was clear from the opening few minutes that it was extremely unlikely that an upset would be on the cards.
Bradford had too much skill and power for a Rams side that still managed to give it their all. The final score of 50-0 was arguably unfair, especially as Dewsbury’s defence only let in two tries in the second half of the match. Regardless it was a professional job, and the Bulls’ reward was a home tie in the next round against Leigh – which will see the return of Robbie Paul to Odsal.
Professional can also be the word to describe the performance against Hull KR the following week. The Rovers are one of a few “hot and cold” teams in Super League this year and their visit to Bradford would certainly fall under the cold category. Their team never really threatening the try line, yet at times the Bulls seemed to do nothing but. A 40-4 final score was well deserved as some of the best rugby of the season, from a Bulls point of view, was served up – full back Brett Kearney and youngster Elliot Whitehead particularly impressive.
Steve McNamara officially announced he is to leave the club at the end of the season to take up the England coaching position, so he will be particularly pleased that the recent run of form is reflecting his hard work over the past few years. However, he will be aware that that form can fall away quickly and will be eager not to slip up against the Crusaders at the Magic Weekend.
