Book Review Broken Symmetries

This collection of short stories is quite remarkable as it leaps from some rather surreal and unusual science fiction one moment to politically incorrect and blasphemous tales the next - with a huge dose of romance, satire and sadism thrown in to top it all off.
There are worlds where men are kept as pets, a ‘reverse Pinocchio syndrome’, which turns nostrils into black holes, and all this alongside touching love stories reminiscent of Lolita and hilarious comedies about the pearly gates.
It is hard to believe that all these tales were written by one man, as there seems to be inspiration from, and links to, every branch of fiction. Which means that every reader, no matter what their taste, will find a story in here that they love.
The only downfall to this book is that the tales are sometimes under developed and only just seem to be getting going when they end, but given the fact that it is short stories and the intelligence, variety and imagination found in this collection, that can soon be forgiven.
