Bar Review Revolution Call Lane Leeds

It’s Saturday night, a DJ’s spinning house music at blistering volume. The room’s dark, the bar queue’s deep and Revolution, like the rest of Call Lane, is rammed. There are people everywhere..

Although Revolution is very much a bar, at the weekend it’s more of a destination for would-be clubbers than for those fancying a few quiet drinks and a chance to catch up with their friends. The brisk no-frills bar service, pounding music and sweat-filled room is very much at odds with the quiet, relaxed atmosphere you receive at Revolution if you pop down for some lunch in the afternoon.

Not that we’re complaining. You go out on Call Lane on a Saturday night and you know it’s going to be busy — that’s presumably why you’re going in the first place. If you wanted a quiet evening with friends, you’d just pop down your local wouldn’t you?

So, you’re there. What to drink? Well, they don’t call it Vodka Revolution for nothing. One of the bar’s big selling points is their love of vodka.

To prove their affection for the stuff, they tinker and toy with the clear liquid, colouring it and flavouring it to make their very own vodka flavours. You can get six different shots to test their taste-creating abilities. Some of them are, truth be told, more for novelty than taste. The chilli-flavoured vodka is perhaps best left to one side and, on the other end of the spectrum, some of the shots can be very, very sweet. But it’s certainly a fun experience.

Of course, if shots aren’t your thing, then Revolution do a good line in cocktails, especially (and unsurprisingly) vodka cocktails. But if you really want to test and try their excellent range of vodka (both flavoured and unflavoured), you might be best heading down before the bar fills up. The queues behind you ain’t going to be happy if you tie up your bartender with a relentless barrage of questions about the bar’s staggering vodka-based backline.

If you fancy a big night out then Revolution is as good a venue as any bar or club, but if you like things a bit quieter (that’s when you know you’re getting old) then you might want to head down early on a weekend, because an awful lot of people like drinking there.

Well said! But don't forget Fridays (free), and Sundays (a measly 3 pounds) if the Monday is a holiday. Electro house all the way. The Sunday ones usually have a visiting top guest DJ.

Revolution Call Lane is FANTASTIC. I love the music, I love the atmosphere, I love it.

There are some downsides to Revolution, however. The bar staff seem far more concerned with chatting, serving their friends AND THEMSELVES drinks before fairly serving whoever was next at the bar.

I have never seen a bar full of staff filling themselves on free jagermeister like I have at Call Lane Revolution.

How can they make sensible decisions on who is fit to be served, and in compromising situations, when they are all so drunk? It worries me!

The managers really need to crack down on their staff (I have heard there have been a number of scams in which staff members ring drinks through at incorrect prices and, effectively, STEAL money from the cash register!?) and then the place would be a clear 10 out of 10!

Lovely place! Badly run!

Having worked at Call Lane Revolution, I can guarantee that there was no stealing from the tills and no one got drunk behind the bar.  The same management team has been there for years and trust me they do watch what the staff are up to! I think maybe you have come up against one bad egg, dont let this ruin your views of what is a great bar
