Leeds-based makeup artist Kirsty Baldwin-Hopkins picks her six essential products

At My Most Beautiful: Kirsty Baldwin-Hopkins

Kirsty Baldwin-Hopkins may have started out in the building trade but she has always had a love for style, fashion and makeup. Working in what was primarily a male dominated environment, she tells us that “makeup was my way of clinging onto my femininity”. She has now been involved in the makeup industry for seven years, progressing onto makeup for television and special occasions. Her business, KBH Makeup, provides a makeover for every occasion - from weddings and proms to make up for men and drag queens. She offers us her professional breakdown of six essential products available on the market.

Sk-11 Signs Treatment Totality, 80g £95, www.harrods.com
“This is an unscented moisturiser, good for everybody’s skin and with really good anti-ageing properties. It was developed in Japan when they noticed that the workers in the sake factories never had wrinkles on their hands. Something in the sake was stopping the skin from ageing, so they have used a concentrated part of the sake in this cream.”

MAC Strobe Cream, 100ml £41, Harvey Nichols
“This is a combined moisturiser and primer and you apply it underneath foundation. It makes your foundation last longer and illuminating particles make it reflective, giving your skin a youthful glow. When wearing foundation you can usually tell if it’s sitting on top of your skin, but this product helps make it look a lot more natural.”

Eyelash extensions, from £20, KBH Makeup
“You can get different types of eyelash extensions from individual ones to clusters. The individual ones are known as Hollywood lashes and are semi-permanent. Go for these if you’re going on holiday as they last a couple of weeks. You wouldn’t need to add mascara, and they are water proof so you can wear them swimming.”

Christian Dior five colour eye shadow palette, £37, House of Fraser
“Dior has just released four new designer palettes with four different colour designs: amber, navy, smoky and pink. All the colours in the palette work very well together and help to create a base, colour, highlight and shade. It also includes eyeliner and is a fool proof way of doing your eye shadow.”

Christian Dior eau magique, 200ml £19.50, House of Fraser
“This cleansing water is for your face and eyes and is really good at removing your make up and cleansing your skin. It’s also a toner and is a very good product if you’re going on holiday as the only additional product you would need would be a moisturiser. It’s really gentle too.”

MAC Mineralize Blush, 3.5g £16.50, Harvey Nichols
“Light on the skin, this also has light reflecting particles to give you a really light, healthy glow without being too much of a heavy blusher. It also comes in various shades.”
