Ale to the Chief Thornbridge Brewery

Tasting beer for a living is a dirty job but Dean Pugh from Mr Foley’s Ale House is prepared to take one (or several) for the team

Ale to the Chief: Thornbridge Brewery

Thornbridge Brewery are one of the countries most loved breweries, but one we don’t often see in the Leeds area. However, Mr Foley’s have just taken their second delivery and hope to make them a more regular feature on the bar in the future. To celebrate I have picked out some of my favourites from their range for you to consider next time you are at the bar.

Wild Swan (3.5%)is an extremely pale ale with a herby, grassy flavour and hints of lemon. It has a fantastic flavour and at such a low abv is a true session beer, perfect for the warmer summer months.

Kipling (5.2%) is a ‘South Pacific’ pale ale with a big tropical fruit aroma including hints of mangoes and passionfruit, with a sweet flavour leading to a dry, bitter finish where a more grapefruit-like citrus flavour dominates.

Jaipur (5.9%) is the most famous of the Thornbridge range, and the one you are likely to have seen before. It is a traditional IPA with an initial smooth, soft flavour leading to a massive hoppy bitter finish, a truely classic ale.

Also look out for their seasonals Alchemy XIII (4.8%), Evenlode (6.2%), Seaforth (5.9%) and Sequoia (4.5%) and the brand new release on keg – Versa Weisse (5%).
