Firstly, apologies for this title but once it entered my mind it would not leave. This came about through something of an epiphany. After years bartending and arguing with people over ice logic, the point has been reacher where something so trivial to begin with has escalated to epic proportions resulting in me having unnecessary heated debates with customers.
These silly rules have gone on long enough! Ice is one of the most, if not the, most important ingredient for a bar to have, especially for cocktails. That’s why we spend ridiculous amounts of cash on gigantic ice makers to help create these drinks. If I’m drinking in a bar or pub or a restaurant or Turkish bath I want ice in my drink – to the top please!
This isn’t because of bigotry or some secret ice worshiping society it’s so your drink starts cold and remains that way for as long as possible (more ice means colder drink means less melty melty).
That’s science people (if only my chemistry teacher could see me now). Comments regarding the watering down of alcohol shall be dismissed due to lack of evidence.
Ice is good people, spread the word!
