A Bartender's Life Find a Hobby

An insight into the life of Mojo cocktail man Lee Jones

A Bartender's Life: Find a Hobby

When you have that lovely night off and you are trying to figure some sort of activity to pursue that doesn’t involve sitting around in your pants watching all series of ‘24’ back to back – you can find yourself stumped. There’s the cinema? Maybe bowling? – annnnnnnd then I’m out – it’s a hilariously genuine struggle for me to partake in some social event without it involving having a beer.

The pubs culture is so completely ingrained in us I wonder what would happen if they didn’t exist. Would we end up with all the kids back in the parks and bus shelters? It’s funny how much we berate those troublesome youths we see hanging around ominously that make you check for your wallet and phone and yet – in all honesty, where do they have to go? It’s not like they’re provided with some American-style diner to sit in slurping milkshakes whilst talking about who’s the dreamiest.

Let’s face it. We got nothin’ – once you’ve exhausted that once every two months trip to the museum or theatre or gallery, it’s back to the beer mats and bad jokes. I love the pub culture, I really do, it’s just sometimes I get depressed that I don’t have alternatives, stalking people and ripping the stuffing out of past school friends on Facebook can only fill so much time!

Maybe ill start a book club. The complete works of Chekhov anyone? Jesus… I need a drink already.
