About The Leeds Guide Company

The Leeds Guide is the entertainment, events, arts and culture magazine for West and North Yorkshire. Published every fortnight from the UK's favourite city, Leeds Guide has successfully been reaching young professionals aged 16-35 for over 10 years. Leeds Guide delivers a captive audience of readers who respect and trust the Leeds Guide brand-this respect and trust reflects onto the advertiser. Leeds Guide delivers a highly targeted advertising medium to people who enjoy going out and spending money-exactly the audience you are looking for.

Leeds Guide advertisers can specifically target our core audiences. Our specialist sections including Clubbing, Arts, Sport, Jazz, Rock and pop, Books, Theatre and Gay are available for sponsorship.

Managing Director

Originally from the northeast of England, Ian Macdonald read English Language, Linguistics and media at UEA in Norwich before graduating in 1995 with a Second Class Honours degree and beginning a successful media publishing career with a stint at consumer magazine publisher Highbury House Communications plc and on The Independent newspaper in London.

Relocating to Leeds in 1998, Ian worked for several print media companies including the Auto Trader group and Yorkshire Post Newspapers where he won a company-wide award for implementing successful creative advertising campaigns for local businesses. Making his Leeds Guide debut in 2002 as a sales representative, Ian has worked hard ever since to build lasting partnerships with new and existing businesses and has played a crucial role in enabling the company to blossom from a small enterprise to one of Yorkshire's most successful independent multimedia publishers.

Appointed company director in the first half of 2009, Ian remains as passionate about The Leeds Guide as the first day he joined, enjoying the ongoing opportunity to be creative, work with his very talented team and make the 'occasional' Dad joke.

Owners

Bruce Hartley

Bruce Hartley was educated at Verulam School, St Albans and The University of Leeds where he read Medical Sciences. As a student he was involved in student societies and the Student Union. After completing the third year of his degree, he served a sabbatical year on the Student Union Executive as the Finance and Administration Officer. He was responsible for the finances, IT, and commercial activities of one of the largest student unions in the country with a turnover of £5m (1996).

In 1997 Bruce founded a publishing and graphic design company and launched The Leeds Guide magazine. The Leeds Guide is now a successful and respected fortnightly arts and entertainment magazine. The company also publishes a monthly magazine for Harrogate and two annual guides. The graphic design business services clients ranging from the BBC and Leeds City Council to The Carling Festival and West Yorkshire Playhouse.

He was formerly a board member and trustee of Unipol Student Properties and a member of the University of Leeds Council, the governing body of the University. More recently he has been a business governor at the North School of Contemporary Dance, a council member for Leeds Civic Trust and mentored other entrepreneurs.

In his spare time Bruce enjoys show jumping, dancing the tango and skiing.

Bill Graham

With 12 years' experience in publishing and event organising in the UK's dance music industry, Bill joined the Leeds Guide in 1999 as Publishing Director and was a key part in growing the company in terms of turnover and reputation in the subsequent years.

"I'm particularly proud of all the people who have worked here and contributed to the success of a very unique and special company since 1999, serving the City of Leeds in an independent and useful way."

Bill steered the company through the choppy economic waters in recent times, and is now working in a freelance capacity for the Leeds Guide, looking after key clients and developing his own media and events consultancy.
