Classical The Hebrides Ensemble and Kafka Fragments

Sat 4th June 2011 (7.45pm)

Scotland’s leading contemporary music ensemble performs two landmark musical works of the 20th Century, each a response to great novelists: Leo Tolstoy and Franz Kafka.  Janá?ek’s The Kreutzer Sonata takes its inspiration from Tolstoy’s 1889 novella of the same title which was originally banned by the Russian censors. Kurtág’s beautiful and minimalist Kafka Fragments brings to life 40 incomplete fragments from the diary of Franz Kafka who is arguably the most influential writer of the 20th Century.
