Art Johnathan Leng: Morris

Sat 29th January 2011 - Sun 8th May 2011 (Call for times)

The Morris costumes of the Britannia Coconut Dancers feature nuts because 19th C. miners used them as protection when crawling underground. But just because Morris sustains these otherwise forgotten features of history does not mean the form has stopped evolving. Johnathan Leng (b. 1970, Leeds) studied photography at Bradford College and at De Montfort University. His canny images of dancers in the North of England show how Morris still throws a mirror on contemporary society and reveal how our view of history changes.
