Kirkstall Abbey

Venue Review

The history behind Kirkstall Abbey is as interesting as the ruins are beautiful. One of Leeds’ most important buildings, it was built between and on the northern bank of the river Aire and housed an order of Cistercian monks. What remains is an elegant, if soot-blackened ruin in tranquil settings, ideal for a look around, the perfect picnic or a spot of romantic sunset-watching. The Abbey House Museum, meanwhile, is packed with artefacts from Leeds’ past, including a chance to relive your childhood amongst the toys.
