Holy Trinity Church

Venue Review

So often you hear Americana country acts sing tales of their troubled lives and sorrows that you somehow just don’t believe them. Micah P Hinson is a man whose problems you can believe. Having been declared bankrupt, found himself homeless and with a drug dependency, Hinson needed to do something to sort himself out. Luckily, his fondness for US grunge acts and for playing the guitar gave him a way out. With the help of Burnley/Texas group The Earlies, Hinson started pushing his sorrowful, gravel-voiced songs out to the world and gradually started turning people’s heads.

Hinson came over to Leeds from Texas just last year, performing in the wonderful setting of Holy Trinity Church, the natural reverb of the building adding a sense of solemnity to Hinson’s already staggeringly sonorous songs.

Having recently released his fourth album - Micah P Hinson and the Red Empire Orchestra - Hinson’s returning to Leeds to show off his new songs and his new band and he’s back at Holy Trinity Church one again. It’s quite an unusual experience, hearing tales of drug addiction and bankruptcy told amongst all the holy relics of a church, but is one that should not be missed.
