News Talented Leeds student makes final of prestigious national photography awards

Aspiring photographer, Viktors Katilis, is selected as a finalist in Hotel Indigo student programme in partnership with World Photography Organisation (WPO)

Leeds, 25th October 2013: Viktors Katilis from the University of Leeds has been selected as a finalist in the Hotel Indigo student programme in partnership with World Photography Organisation (WPO). InterContinental Hotels Group’s (IHG’s) boutique brand, Hotel Indigo, partnered with the renowned WPO, which supports professional, amateur and student photography across the world, to develop a national student programme which will discover the next generation of UK talent.

News Bonfire Night set to sparkle in Leeds

Leeds will celebrate Bonfire Night on Monday with six free public displays

Leeds City Council-managed events will be held at Roundhay Park, Springhead Park in Rothwell, Middleton Park, East End Park, Woodhouse Moor and Bramley Park on Monday 5 November.

Roundhay Park will be the venue for the largest bonfire event in the city, with an estimated crowd of 70,000 attending the celebration sponsored by Al-Murad Tiles and presented by Capital FM. The bonfire on Soldiers Field will be lit at 7:30pm with the fireworks display starting at 8pm.

Senior councillors in Leeds have agreed their preferred bidders to run two new primary schools for the city, which were announced earlier this year.

News Closure of the A58M Inner Ring Road

The A58M Leeds Inner Ring Road is to be closed to traffic in both directions the weekend of Saturday 20 October to Monday 22 October to allow for the installation of the final new concrete beams as part of the essential major repair works to Lovell Park Road Bridge.

The closure of the A58M Inner Ring Road in both directions will start at 8pm on Saturday 20th October and will last until 5am on Monday 22nd October.

News £1bn transport improvements plan part of City Deal discussions

A new £1billion upgrade of the transport infrastructure in Leeds and the wider region will be discussed by senior councillors next week.


The creation of the West Yorkshire Plus Transport Fund is one of the elements of the City Deal announced last month which will see unprecedented local decision-making and spending powers passed down from central government.
