The Labour Party’s legacy is being further obliterated by the Conservatives and Lib Dems as Yorkshire Forward, Yorkshire and the Humber’s regional development agency (RDA), is set to be scrapped – in its current form at least. The coalition government has confirmed Yorkshire Forward’s annual £270m budget has been reduced by £40.2m, although it isn’t targeting just Yorkshire and the Humber’s 11 year-old RDA – funds allocated to all the others are being drastically cut too.
Through the Public Bodies Bill, the government has made it clear that RDAs will ultimately be scrapped entirely, a move it says could…

Locally based amateur dramatics group Leeds Insurance Dramatic & Operatic Society (LIDOS) are looking for undiscovered talent to star in their forthcoming production of The Sound of Music.
Originally a stage musical but famously adapted into a film in 1965 (starring the wonderful Julie Andrews), the iconic The Sound of Music is set in the 1930s and follows the life of Maria Rainer and the Von Trapp family she works for. Like most great musicals, the story is full of romance and the production full of songs. When Maria falls in love with Georg Von Trapp, the father of the…

News New Recycling Scheme for Electrical Appliances in Leeds
Council pledges to make recycling more accessible
Leeds City council has launched a new scheme to make it easier for members of the public to dispose of their old electrical appliances in a more sustainable way.
Approximately 70% of small electrical appliances, including toasters and kettles, are apparently being discarded into landfills each year instead of being recycled. So in order to combat this unnecessary waste, Leeds City Council and the company Weeelink have formed a new initiative called WEEEBATS (Waste Electronic and Electrical Equipment incorporating Battery recycling), with bottle bank style containers being placed at 11 sites across Leeds.
If the containers prove to be a…
